Mumbai: Several box office records have been broken by Amaran. It has surpassed Vijay’s Greatest of All Times (GOAT) as the second-highest Tamil grosser of 2024.
Sacnilk estimates that the film brought approximately ₹330 crore globally. It made ₹250.9 crore in India, with ₹166.9 crore (net). Additionally, the movie made ₹79.1 crore in foreign markets.
Moviegoers are already anticipating Amaran’s OTT release because of its enormous popularity.
Netflix will begin streaming the biographical action movie, which is based on the life of Indian Army Major Mukund Varadarajan, on Thursday, December 5.
Netflix’s OTT Release of Amaran
Amaran’s official OTT distribution partner is Netflix. Because of the tremendous reaction the movie had in cinemas, the platform first delayed its distribution. According to reports, Netflix paid ₹60 crore to acquire the digital rights.

Rajkumar Periasamy is the director of Amaran. Raaj Kamal Films International and Sony Pictures Film India worked together to create it. In addition to Sai Pallavi, Rahul Bose, and Bhuvan Arora playing important parts, Sivakarthikeyan plays Major Mukund Varadarajan in the movie.
The film draws inspiration from Major Mukund Varadarajan’s life. It is based on Shiv Aroor and Rahul Singh’s book India’s Most Fearless: True Stories of Modern Military Heroes. A section about Mukund and his wife, Indhu Rebecca, is included in the book. As she travels to Delhi to accept the Ashoka Chakra, which was given to Mukund posthumously, she tells the tale of her husband.
